In 1828 Archduke Johann's years of efforts were finally crowned with success: his brother, Emperor Franz I., permitted the establishment of the "k. k. privileged Austrian fire damage insurance institution for Styria, Carinthia and Carniola”; Thus, the foundation of the success story of GRAWE was laid that has continued for more than 190 years up until this day.

This dedication, however, was not restricted to the insurance sector; they were extended to banks and real estate, in particular. Early on GRAWE responded to the economic conditions that prevailed on the capital markets by investing in real estate and real property in order to guarantee the most important asset of any insurance firm: security.

This led to GRAWE becoming one of Austria's biggest real estate owners and real estate trustees, and even beyond Austria, GRAWE does business in some CEE countries as well.

The GRAWE Real Estate Group is combined in the independent GRAWE IMMO AG; the lines of business of their undertakings further include property development & construction management, site development, financing, realisation, marketing and rental of properties. GRAWE's real estate portfolio not only includes numerous historical buildings in the best metropolitan areas but also modern office buildings, shopping centres and residential complexes. GRAWE considers its real estate portfolio and the appearance of each property the showpiece of its business.
